Meet the Researcher: Jan-Philip Zegwaart

Position: (Former) Project Researcher, Biomedical, Rousselot
What societal/medical issue does your research address?
In my role with the ENLIGHT project (May 2021- April 2023), I produced medical grade (modified) gelatins. These gelatins can be used as base material in the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine fields, but also in Organ-on-a-Chip or organoid applications
What do you like most about your role?
I believe I am now positioned between academia and industry in a translatory role. I like being involved in both fundamental science and the applications side. The fundamental investigations into the modified gelatin biopolymers together with the use of these biopolymers in various applications make that my work and research is always new, interesting and cutting edge from a translatory perspective.
Thanks to Jan-Philip for the tremendous efforts over the last two years!
At our 2023 Spring consortium meeting in Naples, we took the opportunity thank and recognize Jan-Philip, as he just has recently wrapped up his work on biomaterial-related tasks of the project. We extend our sincerest gratitude to him for two years of dedicated research and his instrumental work on advancing the ENLIGHT pancreatic model. We wish him all the best as he moves on to new challenges.
