Rousselot Innovation Days 2022 April 13th and 14th:

“For our 2022 Innovation Days, you will be offered an exciting and interactive program. Our speakers will share information on current research and developments, examples of initiatives and successes, collaborations, insights on regulatory environments, and other topics that will help you progress in your market.” https://www.rousselot.com/innovation-2022

Our ENLIGHT Researchers presented a session on:

How natural biomaterials consistency leads to tunability
by Ir. Jan-Philip Zegwaart (Project Researcher at Rousselot)
and Ir. Davide Ribezzi (PhD student at the Regenerative Medicine Centre Utrecht)

Because of their biocompatibility, biodegradability and cell-interactivity, gelatins are widely used in biomedical- and tissue engineering. Gelatin can be chemically crosslinked to create constructs that are stable at body temperature. However, if modified gelatins are produced without a consistent degree of modification and molecular weight, these advantageous biomaterials cannot be used in a reliable manner. This talk will cover the importance of consistent GelMA characteristics such as molecular weight, degree of modification and the associated photo-kinetics to achieve predictable and tunable hydrogel strengths.
In the second part of this presentation these favorable characteristics of GelMA are showcased in the European ENLIGHT project. The ENLIGHT project aims at creating a pancreatic model for diabetic drug testing using the novel Volumetric 3D-printing technique.
